Backstory: Ren's family was rather poor. His father was a working grunt for several people. He took any job he could to provide for his family. Renin looked up to him greatly, and for a time, all was well. Then came the day Ren's father had been told that it was his son's turn to learn the ways of the world. Ren's father, forced to do such a thing to his young child at the age of seven took Ren with him to a task he had been given.
Ren saw what his father did, what he was forced to do. Renin witnesses as his father extorted several people and when they refused he simply disposed of them. For such a young boy, Ren didn't quite understand, he knew that the red stuff was fun to look at though. Later on, Ren's father took him to a bridge, while it was under construction. In a freak accident his father died along with Ren getting impaled by a large piece of metal.
Ren survived the accident although his father didn't shortly after Ren begged his mother to let him go to the academy, and feeling sorry for him, she accepted his request and had him instated into the academy. Ren was nine when he entered the academy.
